Money-wise Tips For First Time Car Buyers

If it's your first time to buy a new car, there's a lot of things to consider.

But if you want to save money or spend as little as possible, here are various

money-wise tips for you :

Albert was asking for some help because it was his first time buying a car. I'm

not an expert, but I figured I'd share what I've learned so far.

This isn't a car blog though, for tips on engine specs, performance, parts etc. ,

you may refer to my previous blogs on "The Best Luxurios Cars" ,  "Various Car

Here I have tried to provide the best I can give on cost and maintenance tips. And

I'm not experienced enough to give advice on buying second-hand cars either, so

this post is mostly about buying a new, first-hand car.

1. Choose your car wisely.

I'm a firm believer in paying for value. Unfortunately, because cars are so

expensive, it's naturally associated or appraised as much for the perceived social

status it brings, and not necessarily the real role it will play in your daily

life - which is mainly as just a point-A-to-point-B means of transportation.

I once heard a presidential candidate gloss over having a Volvo as a need because

that level of "security" is needed for his position. If the car came out of the

factory with bullet-proof chassis and self-inflating tires, I'd readily agree. But

he was probably referring mostly to the dependability and reliability of the car.

I can't knock the quality of Volvos, but obviously they also don't have a monopoly

on great car performance.

I'd still buy it; if I can really afford it !!

I also often hear people citing safety as the main reason for buying a big,

expensive, gas-guzzling SUV. It certainly feels safe to be inside such a big

sturdy vehicle. But defensive (and level-headed) driving is still the best way to

avoid getting in an accident. Besides, there are other vehicles just as big or

bigger than SUVs, so being in a big car doesn't mean much. And a high-speed

collision, even with a smaller car, hardly excludes a bad outcome. SUVs aren't

really that much safer.

I'm not knocking Volvo or SUVs. If you need one, get one. Just be sure you know

what you really need. Even if you can afford a more expensive car, there may be

very little additional value you are getting back in return.

2. Choose your dealer.

Even when buying the same exact car, different dealers can sometimes offer

different prices. Find one willing to give you discounts or freebies. Sometimes no

one can really do so; but it's very much worth the try.

How to try? Just ask point-blank. If they say none, say you'll think about it and

then talk to other dealers. You can also try going back and getting counter-

offers. Personally, though, I just pick the best offer I get from the first round

of asking.

3. New is great, but semi-new may be safer and cheaper.

I'm not saying buy a newish second-hand. But if the car model came out just a

month or two ago, you typically won't be able to get discounts or freebies.

And if the car is part of a new line or has been totally overhauled (design-wise)

it might be best to wait a bit for the feedback to get in and for the car

manufacturer to address issues.

4. Consider buying accessories separately.

I'm sure it's great to get the car exactly as you want it on the very first day.

But if you're getting it through in-house or bank financing or some other type of

loan, it might not make much financial sense.

Take leather seats. Let's say it costs Php10,000 at the dealer. When paying

through bank financing (at 10% per year over 3 years, for example), you're

actually paying something like ~13,300 - or over 30% more than market value.

Instead of paying interest on an accessory you can otherwise afford, try saving up

and/or investing for them instead.

5. Pay in cash, or else get bank-financing rather than in-house financing.

It's cheapest to buy in cash. Not all of us are as blessed though. From

experience, bank-financing is cheaper than in-house financing (i.e. loan through

the dealer).

If a bad financial picture is preventing banks from loaning you money, it's better

to fix that problem first. Getting an expensive loan may just aggravate the

situation.

You can refer to my upcoming post on different banks' car loan rates ; I am

working on this blog and will share my information with you very soon.

6. If you're getting a loan, make a huge downpayment

Doing so means you pay less in monthly amortization and paying less in total

interest cost over time.

7. Ask about insurance options.

Never Miss On this Tip !!

If you are buying through bank-financing, you're going to be required to get car

insurance. Your car dealer may have partnered with an insurance company and you

might not have much choice, but it's still worth asking.

You'll probably have a bit of leeway with the insurance coverage. Get an insurance

that fits you, but don't be overly stingy. In my case I opted for a comprehensive

one with an Acts of Nature clause because it only added around 4k to my insurance

premium (which is good for three years already) and I wasn't sure how flood-prone

my new area of residence really is.

8. LTO registration

Another thing I liked about getting a new car is that my dealer handled the

legwork for this on my behalf (at no extra cost).

This can also be part of the "freebies" - they'll shoulder the cost as a sales

gimmick (if they don't offer, you can try asking).

But if the model you are buying just came out, there are typically no freebies.

9. Ask about maintenance costs

Warranties are void if you don't do the regular maintenance. Even disregarding

that, it's better to be proactive and not let problems get worse before having

someone look at it.

But from experience, dealers are not so willing to talk about the cost of

maintenance. One probable reason is that it can vary from dealer to dealer.

That's right, the same car in the same condition, taken to different car dealers

(same brand and service, even if technically a different franchise) can charge

differently.

My true experience : The dealer I bought the car from was going to charge me over

4k for the 1000km check-up (including fully synthetic oil, since 1-2Km is the time

for the first oil change).

I didn't have enough saved up (since they didn't mention the price beforehand) and

I didn't want to use my credit card. So I opted to wait a while more before

proceeding with the maintenance.

When I did have the money (before reaching 2000km), I went to a nearby dealer

instead to at least save on gas. Surprisingly they quoted a price of just over 2k.

So for my next maintenance, I'll be canvassing some dealers before deciding where

to go.

The Best Powerful and Expensive SuperBikes In the World

Supercars and Hypercars commanding a price tag in crores isn't unheard of but what about their two-wheeler counterparts? Are they equally pricey?

Here I present a list of the 10 most expensive production motorcycles in order of their price increase.

10) Vyrus 987 C3 4V V (Volumex)

Price : $1,03,769 (Rs 57 lakh)

If Bruce Wayne had to buy a motorcycle then the Vyrus 987 C3 4V V would be definitely his weapon of choice. Instead of traditional steering arrangement where forks are used up-front, the Vyrus employs hub-centre steering and front swingarm which is parallel to the tarmac. The bike is powered by a Ducati-sourced 1198cc V-twin engine which has been further supercharged to pump out 214PS of power while weighing just 154kg.

9) MV Agusta F4CC  :

Price : $1,20,000 (Rs 66 lakh)

The MV Agusta F4CC is powered by a 1,078cc mill that's competent enough to pump out 203PS of power -- enough for the bike to propel to a top speed of 315km/h. Only 100 examples of the F4CC would be built and with every bike the owner would be gifted a Girard-Perregaux Laureato EVO3 F4CC wristwatch worth $22,856 or Rs 12.5lakh, which, in turn, is limited to 100 units.

8) NCR MH TT (Mike Hailwood) :

Price : $ 1,30,000 (Rs 71.38lakh)

The MH TT is NCR’S tribute to commemorate the 30th anniversary of legendary racer of Mike Hailwood’s victory at the Isle of Man. The MH TT is a modern replica of the Ducati 900 NCR on which Hailwood recorded his famous win. The 1,120cc engine pumping out 132PS is nestled in a titanium frame which weighs a mere 5kg.

7) Confederate B120 Wraith :

Price : $1,35,000 (Rs 74.12 lakh)

For Confederate, functional minimalism is of utmost importance and with the Wraith they took it to the next level. The aircraft-inspired chassis consists of a carbon fibre spine complemented by aluminium bulkheads sandwiching the engine. The fuel tank is located under the motor, while the front suspension shuns conventional telescopic forks in favour of a blade-type girder arrangement.

6) NCR Leggera 1200 Titanium Special :

Price : $ 1,45,000 (Rs 79.57lakh)

NCR’s belief is that everything can be improved upon, made lighter and pack more performance and that’s the treatment they have given to the Hypermotard with the Leggera 1200.By using carbon-ceramic brakes and a body which has been sculpted from carbon fibre, the bike weighs 47kg lighter than the stock bike. Engine modifications include more titanium for the valves, magnesium engine covers and bigger bore cylinders which have resulted in a total power output of 140PS.

5) Icon Sheene :

Price : $ 1,72,000 (Rs 94.39 lakh)

For the Barry Sheene tribute bike, Icon utilised a 1,400cc Suzuki mill which was mated to a a Garrett turbocharger running at 0.4 bar pressure resulting in a final power out put of an incredible 253PS. It features a custom made tubular aluminum frame, a fuel tank made from hand-beaten aluminum and hand-laid carbon fibre body panels. Production is limited to only 52 examples.

4) MTT Y2K Superbike :

Price: $ 1,75,000 (Rs 96 lakh)

MTT employed a Rolls-Royce-Allison Model 250 turboshaft engine from a helicopter to power this behemoth! The stock engine pumps out an astounding 324PS of power but if you want to go full bonkers, there is the Streetfighter variant with an insane power output of 426PS and a torque rating of 678Nm! All these numbers mean the Y2K boasts a top whack of 365km/h which can put many hypercars to shame.

3) NCR Macchia Nera :

Price : $ 2,25,000 (Rs 1.23 crore)

The Macchia Nera or Italian for 'black spot' is designer Aldo Drudi’s ultimate expression of a motorcycle moulded with carbon fibre and titanium. The donor engine for the Macchia Nera is a Ducati 998R testastretta engine from the 2003 World Superbike season with a power rating of 182PS. By employing lightweight materials, the Macchia Nera's weight was restricted to just 135kg.

2)NCR M16:

Price : $232,500 (Rs 1.27 crore)

How to make a bike worth nearly quarter of a million dollars? Simple; by taking a donor bike which is already expensive in this case the already bonkers MotoGP bike for the road, the Ducati Desmosedici RR and went berserk with it resulting in the creation of the NCR M16. The bike has been put on a diet that would make any size zero model burn with envy as the machine weighs just 144kg. The engine has also been tuned extensively and delivers over 203PS of power on the rear-wheel.

1) Ecosse Titanium Series FE Ti XX :

Price : $ 3,00,000 (Rs 1.64 crore)

Ecosse Moto Works is renowned for its exquisite and exclusive motorcycles and its latest creation in the Titanium Series the Ti XX is billed as the most expensive motorcycle in the world. The motorcycle is powered by a 2,409cc billet aluminium powerplant and transmits 228PS of power to the rear wheel. Carbon fibre has been used abundantly on the bike to keep the weight low and the saddle has been handcrafted by posh Italian leathermaker Berluti. To keep the bikehighly exclusive, only 13 units would ever be made.

This isn’t an exhaustive list of SuperBikes . If any other most expensive bikes isn’t on the list, please share it with us in the comments . Your knowledge and comments proivde energy into me to write more and more.

The Most Awaited Hottest SuperCars To Hit The Market In 2014

2014 is going to make it big in the auto mobile industry. Many automobile giants have announced their anticipated cars and there is as much a buzz about it in the market. There are a lot of speculations and rumors about these anticipated supercars as they will provide a very sophisticated technology to the market. As every year passes by, the car makers are ready with their next super model. The cars that will be launched this year are already equipped with super hot technology and therefore, the cars to be launched next year are perceived to be ridden with latest and new technology.

It will definitely bring a revolution in the automobile industry !!!

This list is very refined and I have tried to put the Prices of the cars to make the potential buyers aware. Hence, here is the list of hottest supercars to hit the markets in 2014:

1. Aston Martin Vanquish Volante:

The British car brand that is popularly known to be a favorite of James Bond is all set to launch another luxury car in 2014. Aston martin has remained to be the top brand in manufacturing luxury cars and it is considered to be a prestige to own one.

The features of this new car are incredible and portentous. It showcases some of the coupe's features where it possesses a carbon fiber body and an engine of 565 horsepower. The top speed of this car will reach up to 180 plus miles per hour. The three layer top of the car is structurally designed and it is meant to keep the car out of trouble and turbulence while driving at high speeds.

The price of the car can be adjudged by the legacy of the Aston Martin brand and the potential customers should not expect anything less than 300,000 USD. It is one of the most awaited supercars of the year 2o14.

2. Ferrari LaFerrari:

Ferrari LaFerrari is the second most awaited car of 2014 in our list. It will possess a top speed of 217 miles per hour, which is very impressive. The 949 horsepower engine will make sure that the car has enough power to rush to top speeds without any hassle. It can go up to 6o km/hr from 0 km/hr in just a matter of 3 seconds. This car is superhot and superfast but rerrari always produces cars that are safe to drive with.

There is a high level of aerodynamics employed in the making of the car, Its curvaceous cockpit is purpose-ridden. It is employed in order to cut the weight of hybrid drivetrain. The driver will have all the comfort in the car as he can adjust the seat according to his height and also the wheel and pedals. This is some feature that is unavailable in most of the supercars.

Ferrari LaFerrari will be a limited edition car and only 49 units are planned to be manufactured so far. Therefore, prior reservations are recommended for the potential buyers. When it comes to pricing, it carries a hefty tag and will cost more than 1 million USD for the user.

3. Mclaren P1:

This is a high range supercar. Mclaren P1 will hit the showrooms in 2o14 at a hefty price tag of 1.2 million dollars. This car is designed for the people who believe in the value of luxury cars and not for a rough use or for going to buy beer with this car.

The 3.8 liter twin turbo V8 engine of the car is enough to provide a thumping touch to the anticipated car and its electric motor creates 903 horsepower and 663 pound feet of torque. ft is quick and reaches from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3 seconds time. If the accelerator is pressed on a continuous note, the car may even reach 124 miles per hour in 7 seconds which is unbelievable. McLaren has produced only a few cars over the time so there is a great anxiety among its fans for the launch of McLaren P1.

4. Porsche 918 Spyder:

Porsche 918 Spyder is another anticipated car of 2014 and its owners are proud to announce that the car will be launched in 2o14. It will work wonders in terms of performance and fuel efficiency. The starting price of the car will be 850,000 UsD. The price is on the higher end but the features and performance of this car justify it.

It will possess 4.6 liter 608 horsepower V8 engine. There are a couple of more motors that are present along with the engine. These motors are designed to provide more 286 horsepower to the car. Porsche 918 Spyder will reach from 0 to 6o miles in just a matter of 2.8 seconds which is highly impressive. Hence, it makes the potential buyers more curious for the car and they cannot wait before the car Is on the floor in 2o14. Porsche has always lived up to its expectations with all its cars and same is expected here too.

Porsche

Spending time in the virtual world can be great fun. The only thing is, you can’t feel the wind against your skin as you accelerate through every twist and turn.

Model : Boxster

The Boxster celebrates real life. Whether it is known as a design classic, a powerful mid-engined sports car or a pure-bred roadster, it does full justice to its famous predecessors, such as the 356 No. 1 or the 550 Spyder.

Engine: 265 hp at 6,700 rpm

Performance

Top Track Speed: 264 kph
0-100 kph: 5.8 s

Price :$ 57,500

Engineering

Porsche Boxster Interior

The interior of the Boxster models delivers exactly what the exterior promises. Light, uncluttered and defined; everything is conceived with one goal in mind: the perfect drive.

The power, the contouring, the driver’s vision, indeed the entire concept, are all drawn in the direction of travel. The intelligent operating concept and the logical arrangement of the controls keep the driver’s concentration purely on the road. The ascending centre console cocoons the driver perfectly and reduces the distance from the steering wheel to the gear lever for fast and ergonomic gearshifts. It’s just one of many principles that we’ve transferred from the racetrack to the road.

The door styling is similarly dynamic. The door pulls mirror the lines of the centre console and blend seamlessly into the distinctive design. The door storage compartments are sweeping and practical.

As you would expect from a sports car, the driver sits low down. Sports seats are fitted as standard. The athletic proportions of the Boxster models made it possible to introduce a new interior architecture. The result is a feeling of space and light without compromising the authentic roadster experience.

Are you ready to assert your independence? The ignition lock, as ever, is on the left. The three-spoke sports steering wheel falls perfectly to hand. As is typical of a Boxster, there are three circular dashboard instruments. The instrument on the right is now a 4.6-inch TFT screen that shows information from the on-board computer or audio information from the CDR audio system, which is fitted as standard. An inconspicuous shroud shades the instruments for optimum visibility.

The steering wheel rim, gear lever/selector and door pull inlays are finished in tactile leather. Silver-coloured details add to the refined tone; these include the dashboard trim strip, the side and centre air vent surrounds and the centre console. As an option, the sporty elegance of the Boxster models can be further enhanced with a comprehensive suite of interior trims and upholsteries.

Sunny Kabra

Porsche Boxster Exterior

Boxster is a Porsche that continues to epitomise the feeling of genuine freedom and advancement.

The vertical contour of the headlights was inherited from Porsche race cars of the 1960s and 1970s. The Boxster may be infused with the genes of past generations, but it ushers in a new and forward-looking design ethos.

Large, imposing air intakes give the front a powerful appearance.

The side contour promises thrilling performance, while the long wheelbase and low, raked windscreen are integral to forming the stretched, wedge-shaped silhouette. With the hood closed, this impression is reinforced by the extremely sporting roofline. Large wheels, up to 20 inches in size, make a stylish addition to the classic roadster. These emphasise the car’s wide track and help to achieve a completely new level of athletic performance.

The distinctive shoulder line gives further emphasis to the wheels and, in combination with the side air intakes, to the mid-engine layout. Such features are reminiscent of the 718 RS 60 Spyder, a lightweight mid-engined sports car that achieved success in endurance racing and hillclimbing championships alike.

Precise lines, which run elegantly across the wings to the rear, make the Boxster unique among Porsche models. While its overall look is just as imposing, its lines are more sharply defined than on any Porsche we’ve seen before.

The exclusive door styling reflects more recent Porsche design developments. In typical Porsche fashion, it has a clear function. The dynamic contouring improves airflow to the side air intakes.

At the top, it leads into a precise longitudinal edge and, at the bottom, it is underlined by the sculpted door sill. The exterior mirrors are mounted directly on the doors for impressive aerodynamics and low wind noise.

The rear wing is not only a visual treat, it deploys automatically to reduce lift. Aerodynamics and aesthetics are combined to superb effect. Retracted, the spoiler separation edge makes a seamless transition to the LED taillights. The narrow direction indicators appear to extend the rear wing further. Each taillight sweeps around the central brake light and accentuates the contours of the entire unit. For striking effect, the reversing light and rear fog light are arranged in the middle underneath the rear wing. Clearly, this lighting concept has no precedent, rather it is the result of Porsche’s modern use of form.

The diffuser with stainless-steel tailpipe (dual-tube on the Boxster S) integrated into the centre adds the finishing touch to the powerfully designed rear end. In summary, the Boxster draws inspiration from a long history and, yet, it also incorporates the sum of our ideas of how the future should be. In doing so, it reflects a completely new interpretation of the roadster concept – with a clear focus on looking forward.

Sunny Kabra

Porsche Boxster Engineering

In the Boxster, the 2.7-litre horizontally opposed six cylinder engine delivers 195 kW (265 hp); in the Boxster S, the 3.4-litre equivalent generates 232 kW (315 hp). Both mid-mounted engines feature direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus for a significant increase in both power output and efficiency. The SPORT button on the centre console is fitted as standard and opens up even more agile responses. Power is transmitted to the wheels by a lightweight six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).

A series of innovative technologies is key to achieving exemplary efficiency. As standard, these include the auto start/stop function, electrical system recuperation, energy-saving electromechanical power steering, intelligent thermal management and, in conjunction with PDK, the coasting function. The result is a significant reduction in fuel consumption and, therefore, a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 16% compared with the previous model (depending on the equipment variant).

Porsche Stability Management (PSM) provides stability at the limits of sporty performance. Available as an option, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) offers continuous adjustment of damping forces based on the selected mode. Dynamic performance can be further improved with optional Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV).

The optional Sport Chrono Package includes dynamic gearbox mounts. They contain a fluid with magnetic properties, which enables them to adapt instantly to driving conditions and counteract the effects of inertia. The results are perceptibly more stable handling during performance driving, as well as a higher level of ride comfort.

The hood on the Boxster models makes it easy to clear your head. Fully electric, it opens and closes in around nine seconds and is operable up to a speed of 50 km/h.

The intelligent lightweight construction, which uses aluminium for substantial parts of the bodyshell, doors and luggage compartment lids, helps to achieve an excellent power-to-weight ratio.

Maybach 62 $385,250

The Maybach 57 and 62 were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since

the brand's revival by DaimlerChrysler. They are derived from the Mercedes-Benz

Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motorshow (which was based on the

Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan). DaimlerChrysler attempted to buy the Rolls-

Royce/Bentley marque when Vickers offered the company up for sale. When this

attempt failed (they were outbid by BMW and Volkswagen respectively) they

introduced the Maybach as a direct challenger in 2002. Both models are variants of

the same ultra-luxurious automobile. The model numbers reflect the respective

lengths of the automobiles in decimetres; the 57 is more likely to be owner-driven

while the longer 62 is designed with a chauffeur in mind. The engine is a

Mercedes-sourced 5.5-liter twin-turbo V12, generating 550 hp.

wide, 5.83 m (228 in) long, and weighs 2485 kg (5478 lb). The body of the car is

Aston Martin Vanquish $255,000

The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish is a supercar manufactured by Aston Martin since

2001. It rose to fame after being featured as the official James Bond car in Die

Another Day, the twentieth James Bond film. In the film, the Vanquish has the

usual Bond film embellishments, including active camouflage which rendered the

vehicle virtually invisible. The Vanquish is powered by a 5.9 L (5935 cc) 48-valve

60° V12 engine, which produces 343 kW (460 hp) and 542 N·m (400 ft·lbf) of torque.

It is controlled by a fly-by-wire throttle and a 6 speed 'paddle shift' or semi-

automatic transmission. A special V12 Vanquish S debuted at the 2004 Paris Auto
